In 2014, the artwork of Kevin-John premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and theaters around the country in the feature film “No No: A Dockumentary.” The film, which explores the major league pitcher Dock Ellis and his use of drugs during his historical baseball career, features illustrated sequences provided by artist Kevin-John. Among the sequences Kevin-John illustrated, the artist portrayed a locker room bout between the pitcher and boxer Muhammad Ali, and a standoff with Dock and Hall-of-Famer Reggie Jackson.

Other collaborators on the film included Ron Howard and Adam Horovitz, better known as Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys, who provided music for the film.

The documentary is now available to watch on the cable network Showtime and is also available to stream on Netflix.

Sundancing With KJ Art

Posted in News on January 7th, 2014 by admin

A feature film, illustrated by Kevin-John, will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival, January 16th-26th, 2014.

On June 12, 1970, Dock Ellis threw a no-hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 136 years of baseball history, only 276 no-hitters have been recorded. Dock is the only pitcher to ever claim he accomplished his while high on LSD. During his 12 years in the major leagues, Dock lived the expression “Black is Beautiful!” He wore curlers on the field. He stepped out of his Cadillac wearing the widest bell bottoms and the broadest collars. When he put on his uniform, he was one of the most intimidating pitchers of the 1970s. Dock was often at the forefront of controversy and has been called the “Muhammad Ali of Baseball.” This will be the first time his legend – and the story of the man behind it – will be told in a feature film.
